Camp Report
The Group had a very enjoyable week at summer camp at Chalfont Heights.
There was a lot of rain but it mainly fell during the night or when we were inside, so that it did not affect any of the activities.
Nick (GSL) and Myra were with us for much of time, and cooked dinner for the Scouts on three of the days. The Scouts successfully cooked the other meals. These meals were enjoyed by all, with the fresh air and activities helping to build up appetites !
The local squirrels were very daring, getting into the mess tent and some of the dome tents in search of food, slightly damaging one of them.
The site had a small fire pit, so we were able to burn off the rubbish and provide some camp fires. Our thanks to Gary for providing us with a large supply of wood offcuts to make up for the lack of a wood pile at the camp site. This kept 'pyromaniac' David happy for hours!
Camp Leader Diana (Akela) and Assistant Scout Leader Alick kept the Scouts on their toes and ensured that we kept to the planned programme. In general the adult leaders were able to maintain a relaxed atmosphere, and there was plenty of fun and laughter.
Reviews of the camp from those who attended appear at the end of this report. Reviews
An outline of the week's events :
Saturday :
pitching camp, with a break for packed lunch and avoiding the wasps!
boys vs girls Skittles competition : a very close contest with the boys triumphing by just 10 points. Top scorer was Connor, well done. Full results
Sunday :
Rifle shooting, a close result with Stephanie just pipping Nick to the title of 'hot shot'. Full results
Rabbit run : muddy fun in a series of small tunnels
Pioneering : the two patrols each made a washing-up table.
Monday :
Climbing and abseiling : well done Rosie, the quickest climber, and the Amy and Alick for coping with their fear of heights.
Challenge Course : more energy used up overcoming the obstacles.
Own Camp Fire : a rousing series of songs around our fire pit, followed by marshmallows toasted in the embers. Members of the Site Crew visited us and requested songs for the site Camp Fire (see Wednesday). Two songs were chosen and practiced
Tuesday :
Day Trip to Thorpe Park : a chance to be scared/thrilled/soaked on the big rides, or just enjoy the Teacups and the Carousel!
Wednesday :
Hike : in spite of some mistakes on the route, an enjoyable walk through the countryside.
Archery : an opportunity to go for gold while being entertained by Fred with his jokes and songs!
Camp Fire : the rain just about held off and the fire was eventually good (after the application of much fuel, and marshalls climbing over and inside the structure!). The Scouts performed their two songs very well, well done everyone. There were quite a few croaky voices afterwards!
Thursday :
Go-Karts : pedal-powered karts provided close races and a series of individual time trials. Stephanie had the fastest time, well done.
Swimming : fun in the pool, and the Scouts also covered the requirements for the Swimming badge.
Final Camp Fire : time around our fire pit with hot chocolate and cakes.
Friday :
striking camp, with a break for hot dogs, cakes and fruit.
arrived home (after standard delays on the M25), ready for a rest.
There are some photos of the camp available for viewing

I really enjoyed this year summer camp, I loved the climbing tower and air rifle shooting the best, but all the other activities were good too. I enjoyed all the food especially the 'Squirrel' meatballs!!! . my best ride at Thorpe park was Nemesis Inferno which was great but I couldn't go on the Samuri ride as it was broken. I cannot wait to go camping again as it was a great experiance and I learnt alot, especially about first aid.

I really had great fun at this years camp, I enjoyed the camp fire fun, I enjoyed playing skittles and air rifle shooting, I would of loved to go on the assault/adventure course but we were not allowed. The food was good expecially the spag bol. My best rides at Thorpe Park were Rumba Rapids, Loggers Leap and Tidal wave, I was unable to go on No Way Out as we ran out of time. Roll on next years camp !!!
